Stop Healing Your Past to Lose Weight (Why It’s Keeping Moms Stuck)
What if the reason you can’t lose weight…
is because you’re trying so hard to fix yourself?
And what if the path to effortless weight loss had nothing to do with dieting—
or digging through your past to figure out what’s wrong?
That might sound completely backwards.
But if you’re a busy mom who has tried to “do it right”…
follow the rules…
heal the patterns…
and still feels stuck—
this might be the relief you didn’t know you needed.
Because what if the very thing you’ve been told will fix your weight…
is actually what’s keeping it in place?
The Hidden Pressure Keeping You Stuck
For years, I believed that if I could just find the right diet, everything would fall into place.
So I did what so many of us do.
I learned the rules.
I took nutrition classes.
I tried to follow everything perfectly.
And when I didn’t?
I felt guilty.
Stressed.
Frustrated.
Eventually, I got so tired of the rules that I stopped following them altogether.
But something strange happened…
Even though the rules were gone,
the weight of those rules was still living in my mind.
And I didn’t realize it at the time, but that meant…
It was still living in my body too.
The stress never actually left.
And that’s what eventually led me to one of the most freeing realizations I’ve ever had:
It wasn’t the food keeping me stuck.
It was my emotional experience around the food.
Why Your Emotions Are Affecting Your Weight
Most of us have been taught that weight loss is about what we eat.
But what I’ve seen—both in my own life and with my clients—is this:
Your body responds more to your emotional state than your food choices.
When you’re eating in a state of:
Guilt
Stress
Pressure
Fear of “doing it wrong”
Your body doesn’t feel safe.
And when your body doesn’t feel safe, it doesn’t function optimally.
It can lead to:
Holding onto weight
Increased cravings
Feeling unsatisfied after eating
Constant mental noise around food
But when you shift into a different emotional state—one of calm, trust, and presence—
Everything changes.
You naturally feel more satisfied.
Cravings begin to quiet.
Your body starts working with you instead of against you.
Not because you controlled your food…
but because you changed how you felt.
“But Don’t I Need to Heal My Past First?”
This is where so many moms get stuck.
We’ve been taught that if something isn’t working in our lives, we need to go back and find the root.
So we start digging.
Trying to uncover:
Childhood patterns
Past trauma
Emotional wounds
Hoping that once we figure it all out… we’ll finally feel free.
I remember working with a client who said:
“I know I probably have a lot of past trauma…
but I don’t even know what it is, or where to start.”
And I completely understood that feeling.
Because I used to believe the same thing.
That in order to heal…
I had to go back and fix everything.
The Truth That Changes Everything
But what I’ve discovered—both personally and through working with so many women—is this:
You don’t have to go back to move forward.
You don’t have to excavate your past.
You don’t have to find every hidden memory.
You don’t have to “figure yourself out” before things can change.
You only need to meet what’s happening right now.
Because the emotions you’re feeling in this moment?
They are the doorway.
When you gently allow yourself to:
Notice what you’re feeling
Sit with it without judgment
Let it move instead of resisting it
Something incredible happens.
It resolves.
And not just in the present.
It naturally begins to release whatever is connected to it—past included.
Without force.
Without digging.
Without turning healing into another job on your to-do list.
The Shift That Made Weight Loss Effortless
When I stopped trying to fix everything…
and started simply allowing myself to feel what was already there—
Everything changed.
I wasn’t constantly managing food anymore.
I wasn’t overthinking every choice.
I wasn’t carrying that low-level stress all day long.
I felt lighter emotionally.
And then… physically too.
Without dieting.
Without rules.
Without effort.
I lost 30 pounds.
And more importantly—
I stopped thinking about food all the time.
Why This Feels So Different (and So Relieving)
Most weight loss approaches add more pressure:
More rules
More awareness
More effort
More “work” to do
But this path?
It takes that pressure away.
It gives you permission to stop trying so hard.
To stop fixing.
To stop analyzing.
To stop carrying it all.
And instead…
To come back to yourself.
Because your body was never the problem.
It’s been responding to the pressure all along.
A Simpler Way Forward
If you’re a mom who feels like you’ve tried everything…
What if the next step isn’t doing more—
but doing less?
Less controlling.
Less overthinking.
Less fixing.
And more allowing.
More listening.
More trust.
